Umbilical Cord blood is rich in uncontroversial, life-saving stem cells. New ways to use stem cells are discovered every day. The future of stem cell use is limitless, and because there is no “expiration date” for stored cord blood, your child and other relatives could benefit from banked stem cells years down the road. Stem cells can be used to treat a myriad of diseases.
Imagine a future where cord blood stem cells treat virtually every disease known to man by growing new cells, tissues and organs. Promising research in the field of regenerative medicine hopes to make that future a reality. Researchers are also looking into ways to multiply the number of stem cells available in each sample, which will enable multiple treatments and even donation to others.
When cord blood is neither privately banked nor publicly donated, it is simply discarded. Because more than 6,000 people every day are waiting for a stem cell transplant, we always encourage families to look into options for banking their child’s cord blood cells, whether privately or publicly, rather than throwing away these important, potentially life-saving cells.
We make enrollment really simple. Just click the order now link at the top right-hand corner of the page, enter some personal information and your credit card credentials and you’re done. Our business is built around our mission of preserving the future possible. We determined that the best way to do this is through simplicity, elegance, and availability. We choose not to participate in large scale research studies, expensive marketing initiatives, and physician incentives. Instead, we choose to invest in our process, in our product, and in our customer support. Happy customers define our success.
Simply select “give a gift” when ordering. You will be prompted to enter your information as well as the recipients. After your credit card is processed, your recipient will receive an email with further instructions. It’s that simple.
Don’t worry, you can enroll at any time….preferably several weeks before your due date. For peace of mind, we do suggest that you consider enrolling sometime during your second trimester as babies tend not to come on schedule. That said, we can always overnight you a cord blood collection kit.
We take privacy very seriously! All Genecord employees are required to sign confidentiality agreements, and all handling of your personal information is governed by our strict privacy policy. In addition, we use robust data encryption technology and best-in-class software to ensure that your personal information is safe and secure. You can read more about our privacy policy here.
Our pricing is simple, elegant, and affordable. We charge one flat fee of $2,595 for processing and 20 years of storage. No hidden fees ever.
In the event that your child’s cord blood unit is not collected, all fees will be refunded except for an administrative fee of $350.00 per unit. If your child’s cord blood unit is collected and processed and you choose not to store (or your child’s cord blood units are deemed unable to be stored by the Medical Director), all fees will be refunded except for a processing and administrative fee of $1,200.00.
Yes, temperature is controlled throughout processing of the specimen. Specimen processing temperature and storage temperature is maintained as defined in our protocol in a controlled environment that is monitored 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
We do not use a robot for cord blood processing or storage. Although there are robotic systems that are excellent for freezing and storage, the literature does not demonstrate an improvement in stem cell viability of this technology. There is also a significant greater cost to the client with it’s use which we do not yet feel is justified.
We use manual cell separation by Bio E PrepaCyte processing method which is a well-established method with outstanding safety and efficacy.
First the blood is placed in temporary storage in a nitrogen vapor quarantine freezer until it clears infectious disease testing, then it is moved to the long term freezer. The long-term freezer uses the vapor phase of cryogenic nitrogen and is automated.
There are two anticoagulants used by the cord blood banking industry; Citrate Phosphate Dextrose (CPD) and Heparin. We use CPD instead of Heparin for two reasons. First, CPD is recommended by the FDA as the preferred anticoagulant for cord blood banking and, Second, CPD is thought to act as both an anticoagulant and preservative.
The processing of all Genecord cord blood specimens is performed by an AABB accredited facility assuring the highest quality.
We use Fedex or Midnite Express (MNX) depending on logistic needs (i.e delivery hospital location, time of delivery, etc.). From time of collection, our logistics coordinator ensures that all samples arrive back to our lab within 48 hours, although average time ranges from 12-36 hours.
